Announcing FIL-RetroPGF-2: Continuing to Fund Filecoin Public Goods

FIL-RetroPGF is a retroactive impact funding program inspired by Optimism, built for the Filecoin Ecosystem. 

Round 1 has set the stage with a fantastic start, distributing more than 200K FIL to 95 different projects.

FIL-RetroPGF-2 is landing in Fall 2024, and we are excited to improve and streamline the program and recognize the hundreds of awesome builders across the community in the coming months.

💪 FUNDERS

RetroPGF would not be possible without funders. In FIL-RetroPGF-1, Titan Network, web3mine/Ramo, Filecoin Foundation, & Protocol Labs contributed generously, resulting in the close to $1M USD distributed to 95 different public goods projects in the Filecoin ecosystem. 

More donors are invited to join FIL-RetroPGF-2 . 🔄 ROUND IMPROVEMENTS

We are excited to announce round 2 in Fall 2024, which will be stronger, faster, better 🤖! 

Stronger - More funding will be distributed to eligible projects! 

Faster - The application, badgeholder voting and distribution process will be streamlined!

Better - The UX is being improved, based on feedback from badgeholders, applicants, and funders. Communication will be more consolidated through the telegram channel, and funding will be streamed through Drips on FVM. Read about the changes considered in the review of Round 1.

🏅 HIGH IMPACT PROJECTS

The second round will keep the same broad coverage of categories as the first round:

• Infrastructure & Dependencies: software used to build or deploy the FIL Stack; contributions to protocols or standards upon which the FIL Stack runs; experiments that support future development of the core FIL Stack protocol.

• Tooling & Utilities: work that helps builders create applications on Filecoin mainnet, build on the FIL Stack, or use applications built on Filecoin.

• Education & Outreach: work to spread awareness and knowledge of how Filecoin works. Both technical and social contributions are welcome!

• Protocol Research & Development: work to improve the Filecoin protocol, to include both theoretical contributions as well as implementations and prototypes are in scope.

• Collective Governance: Work that impacted Filecoin's governance participants or helped bring new governance participants into the network.

• Products & End User UX: Work that helped improve the end-user experience and adoption of Filecoin technology.

• Other: For important contributions that do not fit the above categories.

And we’re particularly excited to see submissions that showcase:

• Filecoin data on-ramps, with successful client onboarding stories.

• Apps that increase Filecoin usability.

• Development in FVM on-chain payments.

• Advances in fundamental protocol R&D in the Filecoin ecosystem.

• Projects that bring new connections to Filecoin from outside of the network.

• Reliable tools like high-quality RPC providers, explorers, and dashboards.

These high impact examples are meant to offer inspiration while building, but are not an exhaustive list. We encourage you to think beyond them and explore other innovative ideas.
